Five corporates - SONGAS, Wentworth Africa Foundation, Mantra Tanzania, BG Tanzania and Bakhresa Group – have supported the development of new libraries at 6 secondary schools. The libraries were created by 29 volunteers under the auspices of Realising Education for Development.

The schools are:
Raha Leo Secondary School, Mtwara Municipality
Mwena Secondary School, Ndanda (Mtwara)
 Mtapika Secondary School, Masasi Municipality
 Mwinyi Secondary School, Mkuranga (Pwani)
Ilulu Girls Secondary School, Kilwa (Lindi)
Rwinga Secondary School, Namtumbo (Ruvuma)

Volunteers spent 25 days project managing the transformation of an empty classroom into bright, colorful and organized libraries. Work included getting new furniture made, painting the room, referencing the books, running literacy activities with students, training the librarian and raising awareness in the school about the importance of reading.

Over 11, 000 locally published textbooks and fiction were donated to the 6 libraries. We are grateful for book donations from Oxford University Press and Book Aid International which were also included in these libraries.

The libraries opened the last week of March and are currently providing access to educational resources to 2, 821 students.
